PURPOSE, VISION & GOALS
The purpose of the Code 3 for a Cure Foundation is to:
- Provide financial assistance on a nationwide basis to firefighters (whether active or retired and whether salaried, paid call, or volunteer) who are diagnosed with cancer and facing a financial hardship.
- Bring attention to the issue of firefighter cancer and help minimize the impacts of cancer among firefighters by providing them with support, giving encouragement, and sharing our experiences. This is achieved, in part, through the Annual Mission of Honor and Hope. (The Foundation does not provide medical advice.)
- Provide financial support to select nonprofit cancer organizations.
Our vision is to be a leading nonprofit organization that is a well-known and reliable source of help and support for firefighters stricken with cancer.
Our goal is to have 80% of our funds going directly to firefighters in need who are battling cancer, 10% to other nonprofits in need that we believe to be deserving of a contribution from C3FAC, and the remaining 10% to operating costs. (No one who works for Code 3 for a Cure gets paid a salary; all who become involved do so strictly on a volunteer basis.)
Although we have not yet reached our percentage goals, we began issuing checks to firefighters in June 2012, and since that time have not had to turn down any firefighter who has requested financial help, nor have we had to initiate a waiting list. Additionally, the Foundation is growing in many ways, including the involvement of firefighters and other athletes across the country who are dedicating their races to raise funds for our cause; and we have faith that, with their help and that of fire departments, locals, groups, corporations and individual donors, we will reach our percentage goals.
