“My husband needed a critical surgery to remove a fast growing tumor in his kidney, but then it was discovered that he has very rare antigens in his blood. If it weren't for the national search conducted by the American Red Cross, he would have never gotten the blood he needed to get that surgery done.”

“Both before and after my kidney surgery, it was the Firefighter Cancer Support Network that was there for me. They provided much needed assistance and let my wife and I know we were not alone. It made all the difference in helping us deal with the trauma we were facing, and it’s something I’ll never forget.”

The mission of the Firefighter Cancer Support Network (FCSN) is to provide Fire Department members and their families an opportunity to receive assistance when dealing with cancer.

Congress created the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation to lead a nationwide effort to honor America’s fallen firefighters. Since 1992, the Foundation has developed and expanded programs that fulfill that mandate. Its mission is to honor and remember America’s fallen fire heroes and to provide resources to assist their survivors in rebuilding their lives.

Compassion was the driving force that led to the founding of City of Hope in 1913. City of Hope provides help to millions of people who are battling life-threatening diseases. Located just northeast of Los Angeles in Duarte, California, City of Hope is a most unusual and remarkable place—where compassion and leading-edge care go hand-in-hand. Here, some of the world’s most knowledgeable physicians, researchers, scientists and health care professionals join forces to treat—and to one day cure—cancers and other life-threatening diseases. These distinguished experts provide state-of-the-art patient care and conduct leading-edge research.

The mission of the American Red Cross, a humanitarian organization led by volunteers and guided by its Congressional Charter and the Fundamental Principles of the International Red Cross movement, is to provide relief to victims of disaster and help people prevent, prepare for, and respond to emergencies.

OPENING WEEKEND IS KEY

September 26 is the date to circle on your calendar. But don’t stop there. Make that circle

big enough to encompass September 27 and 28 as well. That’s because the movie industry measures a film’s success and impact by how well it does on its opening weekend: Friday thru Sunday. Please come out to the theater on at least one of those three days (September 26, 27, 28) to enjoy “Fireproof,” an action-packed yet heartwarming story about a Firefighter and the challenges he faces. In so doing, we’ll send a strong message to Hollywood that this movie is long overdue, and that it’s time for more movies like it.
